The Spartacus HD Tire Carrier System provides the ultimate in strength and stability for mounting your oversized wheel and tire. Functionally designed to manage the amplified force and vibrations produced during extreme off-road conditions. The precision die-cast aluminum Hinge Casting provides maximum strength without the excess weight of steel. The one-piece design maintains one-handed access to cargo area and rigidly links the Wheel Mount to the reinforced section of the rear quarter panel. This, in combination with forged steel hinge brackets and hardened steel pins, results in far superior load capacity than the factory tailgate hinges, thereby effectively reducing wear and increasing longevity. The Wheel Mount lifts the mounting position and incorporates depth and tilt adjustability for large diameter and wide tire options. Tested to MIL-STD-810 to simulate extended duration of vigorous off-road driving conditions. Rated for up to and including 37" wheel tire combinations. Includes adjustable third brake light bracket. Compatible with OE and most aftermarket rear bumpers. No drilling required. Patemt No. D758,829
I purchased this for an eventual upgrade in tire size. The install was not difficult. It is well built and holds my current spare tire. It is sturdy and does not rattle. It does make the door a bit heavier though due to the beefier parts over stock.
This tire carrier hits ammo the marks. It's strong, sturdy, and the finish is fantastic. Took about 45 minutes to install. Holds the 35 inch tire fine and I have no more worry going offroad.
I purchased this when putting new wheels on. I was originally looking to go with a bumper/tire carrier combo but after much reading I learned that unless you get a very high quality combo they tend to bind up after awhile. I also did not want to have to open the carrier and gate separately. My wife mainly uses the Jeep and has a previous hand injury.
The install was straight forward and not difficult. If you are comfortable with a wrench you should be able to install this.It took me and the wife about two hours start to finish. Some parts can be a little pain to complete, such as when removing carrier from the box the top hinge was very, very hard to open. I ended up using a pry bar to open in while it was on the ground.
I have had this on for about 2 months and have no complaints. The tire and wheel are secure. They do not rattle at all. The gate is a little heavier when opening but my wife is able to open the gate with a small amount of effort.
I spent a lot of time researching how to best handle a 37in spare. I ultimately decided to go with a body mounted carrier rather than a bumper mount for a couple of reasons -- I like not having to open a carrier and the tailgate to get in the back (sounds simple, but I've had to do this in the past and it can be annoying in certain situations) and also wanted the flexibility to use whatever bumper I want. So, then it really came down to the Rugged Ridge carrier or the Teraflex. Both are expensive. My buddy loves his Teraflex, but it's $200 more than this one. And, I think this one is great. It's made of aluminum, so it's plenty strong and not overly heavy. Supports the tailgate and my 37in spare perfectly. Takes some time to install, but I was able to do it by myself without any issues. I highly recommend this product.
