Bolts not long enough to pass thru factory spacer on TJT
    Moliver 3 years ago
I purchased the brake light extension after installing 255/75/R17 tires. The installation looked easy enough until I found the supplied bolts were not long enough. Some Jeep Wrangler TJ's have a spacer from the factory (see pic) to lengthen the factory 3rd brake light. I'm assuming these are on the Rubicon models to compensate for the larger tires on the Rubicon. Regardless, the supplied bolts would to work. I contacted Teraflex, sent them pics, etc. They never heard of this, even after I sent pics to other 3rd brake light from TJ's on a Rubion. They send my ticket to 'engineering'. The bolts are only 3/4in short. Teraflex engineering replied a week later and said they never heard of this, again, I showed them other pics from the web of the same OEM spacer. Later they replied in email that they were shipping 4 new bolts at 3.5in long. That's over 3x's the length of the original bolts to compensate for 3/4in extra height. They claim this was the only size available to them (which is hard to believe). The 3.5in bolts are way too long and won't clear the extension. Off to Home Depot to get the proper length bolts. Before buying this extension, check to see if your TJR has (2) spacers under the 3rd brake light (see pic). If so, prepare to make a trip to your local hardware store to buy proper sized bolts.
